The Tyranny of The Majority | America Nov. 9th 2016

On this sobering morning, I am at a loss for words. Blanketed by the foreseen fate of our ailing nation. Watching the development off in the distance like a storm on the western plains. The beautiful chaos dancing between the ancient formations of the land. Knowing, that from a distance I am safe. Able to stare into the eye of madness and project the strength of a thousand men. Though, once it advances, I know I am dead.

I believe the story, which is featured below and written by my brother Zach in 2007 holds true to our current situation. A metaphoric illustration of America from its creation to present day. I thought I'd share it with you.

The Tyranny of The Majority | America Nov. 9th 2016 

Wind swept high over the rim of the North Park depression, sending snow, ice, and debris from seasons past into the thin morning air - seen from below, a crystalline trail of tobacco smoke betraying the den of some great reclining mountain dweller. The horse's breath drifted thick, semi-opaque, white in the first rays of sunlight, mimicking the path of the eastbound airstream. Sounds of the waking forest came omnidirectional: the metallic crunch of twice-frozen snow, lodgepole pines creaking in the breeze, the hollow clatter of two trunks contacting in their rebound. His hands, arthritic and cracked dry, shook slightly in the cold as he reached for the sorrel's reigns. He placed his boot in the stirrup, and heaved himself over into the saddle. The sorrel swayed slightly adjusting to its new weight, taking one step forward and to the side, then settling back onto three legs, the right front shoe raised delicately with the leg bent into a forward facing V, the head tilted down and quietly chomping the bit as some obeisant runner presenting for assignment to faraway lands.

The sun through the pines wove a laticework of stark light and shadow on the cold ground, a vermiculate and ever shifting tapestry - now brighter, now darker - textured as tufted fur by the thick bed of dried, brittle needles from summer upon summer precedent.

He flicked the reigns forward, administering a light prodding kick to the sorrel's flanks with the heels of his dusty boots. They moved forward as one on a downhill slope, the sun at their backs through the trees. Seen from below, the just-breaking orb of sun blocked all detail of them save the diffraction halo bursting from their edge - a holy centaur blinding in illumination.

He kicked again, increasing their speed, the air moving over his face now numbing his lips. The thin line of grey granite stretched across the horizon, approaching, becoming wider with each lope, more defined. The cracks and color variations of the rock came into focus in reckless contrast to the cold blue skyline resting upon it - hard, textured organic earth giving way evanescently, but indisputably, to azure infinity. The trees receded on both sides a short distance from the edge, resembling the curtain frame of an old movie theater, its massive screen blue and featureless - depth without definition, two dimensional or three.

The centaur tested that definition, that cold blue space/plane, the horse's eyes widening with fright, unable to divert - its will not its own, but reposed rather in the pilot above - the man's eyes narrow with purpose. Seen from below, they broke the barrier: appearing first head, then body, then wind-flapping tail. Born from the nothingness of granite to the being of sky.  For a brief time, this foetal beast was a bird.

Neon Brown | All Vinyl Set | Meadowlark Kitchen | Thursday Oct 13th | Denver Nightlife

Tonight I will be DJing at the Meadowlark Kitchen (2705 Larimer Street) in downtown Denver from 10pm - close. Come through and enjoy some delicious food and drinks and say what up.

For the past couple month's I've been on a northern soul and rock tip but tonight we shall get funky. I'll be playing a  lot of funk, boogie, soul and hip hop. All vinyl, all night, all right. Get out into the Denver nightlife and enjoy yourself with the one and only Neon Brown. There's only one Thursday a week and that Thursday belongs to you, me, your jiggling butt cheeks and dancing feet.

Deca - "Waiting"

The homie Deca released his music video yesterday for "Waiting" off of his upcoming solo album Forest Agates. The video premiered on Hip Hop DX but if you missed it, here it is. 

"Waiting" is a stop motion video created by Deca using an iPhone and many hours of precise movements. He captures the complex human experience through the creation of mandalas. The psychedelic imagery leads a beautifully written, thought-provoking song, which focusses on the disarray of our modern age. As Deca travels the existential path to enlightenment, he encounters visceral obstacles, which can lead to his downfall and or rising. Everything is everything.

This month I have producer extraordinaire Eraserfase from L.A. This fella has some amazing music, great stories, and a lot in store for the future, including his Tasty Chops business, which delivers hand chopped rare samples to your email box. Great concept. It takes out all the busy work in making beats and delivers the fun right to your beat machine.

Throw BackThursdays | The Spectator

In 2009, I released an album titled The Spectator, which was more of an experimental project. It ranged in style and sounds and had an indy rock, hip-hop genre-bending feel to it. Looking back, there are definitely some bangers on this album, as well as a few of those not so banging tunes. 

The track I have chosen for today's post is a banger. "Space Petro", is a cosmic journey through the universe. Who knows where we'll end up or what we'll see? The song is accompanied by my bud Anthony Abatzis on vocals. 

I've always enjoyed the build up of this track. It is non-traditional but has a good sense of pop. I feel I need to venture back into this world sometime soon. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Record Swap | Swap and Sell Records

This is a public service announcement to all the record heads in the greater Denver metro area. If you are interested in purchasing and or selling records, eating bao buns, drinking coffee, and nerding out with fellow collectors, then this record swap is for you.

Catching Up With Your Past

Hey all, 

It's been a while since I posted anything on this here site of mine. I have been integrated into the omnipotent work machine of America, unable to pause, but for a second to gawk at the glorious functionality of Squarespace.  

Luckily, the work Gods haven seen-eth fair to grant me a few minutes of time on this lovely Saturday to sit in front of this screen and punch random letters of the English alphabet on this blood and sweat stained keyboard.

In addition, like always I have been hard at work on the NBR (Neon Brown Radio) podcast and would like to share the latest episode, which features my bud Deca. Deca is a highly talented MC and producer. He is about to release a tremendous amount of material, including a solo album titled, Forest Agates. He shares a song off of the album, as well as a story about being in the music industry.

More so, this past month we tried something different. Deca brought some records from his personal collection to share and talk about.
