Kool and The Gangling

Friday, Sept. 18th, 2020, marks the release of, “Kool and the Gangling.” A very short project created by Neon Brown in honor of Ronald Bell formally of Kool and the Gang. Bell passed away on Sept. 9th. Bell was one of the co-founding members of Kool and the Gang. The funk ensemble was highly influential to a handful of genres including, funk, disco, boogie, soul, and hip hop.

A few days after Bell’s passing, Brown got the idea to create a short album in honor of him and the band. He took the following week to create as much music as he possibly could. Brown created close to 26 minutes’ worth of music, which was cut down to 6.5 minutes.

The album, “Kool and the Gangling” is available via Bandcamp for free download. However, if you would like to purchase the album, proceeds will go to DSA (Democratic Socialists of America). DSA has been trudging through the tumultuous political landscape of America, making positive change for the better of all. Brown found it only right to add to the fight through the creation of his music.
