Neon Brown | BAGELS | Limited Edition Cassette w/ Digital Download

My 4th album out of 12, which I will release each month for the next year, BAGELS is a sixteen-track macro album packed to the brim with vibrant, colorful psych vignettes that will leave you in a daze, full and contempt.

Pre-orders for the limited edition cassette of BAGELS are up and running on Bandcamp now. Click either image above or below to order yours now.

Dedicated to J Dilla, hence the title BAGELS, I pulled out all of my psych records and pondered what to do with them. Make a mix? Make beats? Do a live set?

I decided to make red-edits /cut-ups of his favorite samples and see where it takes me. After creating a few, I realized the music was in the same ilk as Dilla Donuts. I decided to make a tribute to J Dilla, Donuts, and my good friend Nate Watters (Sounds Supreme).

Nate was a brilliant DJ and environmentalist who ran his own clean energy PR company and did a lot of good for the world. He passed a little over half a year ago from Lyme. I was thinking a lot about him this past month and it came out in the music.

This album is dedicated to Nate. I initially focussed the album on Global Warming but thought it was too on the head and too dark, so I reworked it to be a much more loosely interpreted piece of work. The way I see it/hear it is holding onto nostalgia, which is interpreted by the radio samples, while living in complete utter chaos which, is the anxious cut-ups of the music and movement of the album. However, I'd like this album to mean and represent whatever the listener takes from it.

TRUCK NORTH X NEON BROWN - CRACKER CHRIST B/W GOD STRUCK

Salutations from the Metaverse!

Neon Brown's and Truck North's two new singles, “Cracker Christ” and “God God Struck” take you to church and to the gritty streets of Philly. Both tracks are available on Brown's Bandcamp and will be on all DSPs by the end of the month.

The two new singles feature Brown’s warm and inviting production. “Cracker Christ" has a more subtle, soulful, somber vibe, that takes you to alter while “God Struck” is an agitated, synth-driven lesson of survival of the fittest that leaves you stranded on a one-way street.

Truck had a few words to say about both tracks:

Cracker Christ

"This song is about trust. Trust in a divine being that me (we) as displaced black peoples were only introduced to during slavery. This introduction was used as a method to “civilize” the so-called savage and establish a pecking order. The concept of a white Jesus is absurd given his geographical origin and it was truly one of the most wicked forms of white supremacy. The song is about deciding to believe in a God who relates to the god within. Same powers, same parables but in a divine being who looks as I do. All while noting the issues that come with any organized religion."

God Struck

"This is about inner-city living and what separates those who ironically are most alike. Death, poverty, perseverance, drugs, and the hope of getting out somehow. Through all of it, we’re all in the same boat essentially."

Brown states, "these two tracks represent a very real and terrifying vicissitude. Although there are plenty of songs, books, and speeches to gain knowledge on the absurdity this Country has thrived off of, not much has taken place to change the situation. This is a narrative that must be pushed and talked about. I urge anyone who listens to these songs and relates to them, to speak on the subject, i.e. white people. Nothing will change unless we do."

Both singles are available for purchase on Neon Brown’s Bandcamp and will be on all DSPs by the end of the month. This is the beginning of Brown’s push to release a project a month for the next 12 months. Keep an eye out for the next one coming in December!

Maintain B/W The Light Goes Out (7” Available Now for Pre-Order)

After coming off the release of 'The Donner Party' with Deca, I’m pleased to kick off 2020 with a pair of musically and lyrically rich new tracks. They’re part of my limited edition 7-inch record, that finds me collaborating with some of my favorite artists.

On the A-Side we find “Maintain,” a hard-hitting but hopeful track featuring Vursatyl (of Lifesavas) and deejay Red C. Vurs delivers a strong message to listeners as Red C provides a head nodding scratch outro. The B-Side, “The Light Goes Out,” includes an appearance from rising San Fran artist Trailer Limon who weaves a gripping narrative about a young man on the brink of ending his life. The bluesy backdrop is courtesy of yours truly, and complements the tone of Limon’s stirring imagery.

The two tracks are available now through all digital retailers and streaming platforms, with vinyl pre-orders accessible exclusively through my Bandcamp page. Only 200 copies will be pressed, where each pre-order will be accompanied with an instant-grat download of my forthcoming instrumental album, ‘L’appel de Vide,’ as an added bonus. Party People!

This past weekend, the legendary Billy Jam was in town for the Crush Walls Festival. The Crush Festival celebrates art, urban beautification, creativity, and culture by enriching the community through art.

I had the privilege and honor of being interviewed by Billy for his show, Put The Needle On The Record. As well, Billy played a handful of tunes from my upcoming album, L'appel Du Vide.

I had a great time and it's much appreciated. Thanks Billy!
